Pre-oil Procedures

Pre-oiling with a Pressure Pot is the preferred method.

When a Pressure Pot is not available, follow this alternate method.
Alternate Pre-oiling Method
Geared Engines - GTSIO-520
• Prop hazard - remain clear of Propeller
• Prepare Airplane
Brakes - On
Chocks - In Place
Mags - Off
Throttle and Fuel - Off
Engine - Installed with Propeller
Spark Plugs - Remove Bottom Plugs
Oil - fill engine (10 Quarts)
Oil Filter - Fill with oil before install [ Figure 1. ] [exception: 421C SN1405 & Up w/pump mounted filter]
• Oil Line
Fill the #10 oil line from oil filter to oil pump with engine oil during installation. [ Figure 2. ]
• Airplane
Prepare for motoring engine
• Establish Oil Pressure Indication
Master Switch - On
Mags, Throttle, and Fuel - Off
Starter - Engage
[No more than 30 seconds with 3 minute cool down]Repeat as need
Oil Pressure Gauge - Watch for first needle flicker indicating movement.
Starter Switch - Off
• Normal Start
Prepare engine for normal start.
Note:
Once in service, bleeding the oil line from the engine to the oil pressure gauge at the fitting will help the gauge show real time pressure much quicker. While running the engine, have an assistant catch the residual oil in a cup at the gauge end. Dispose of properly.
